Design duo Ad Hoc, founded in 2014 by Juan José Nemer and Mauricio Álvarez, is an object, space and furniture workshop from Mexico. Their work focuses on highlighting the natural beauty of the materials, as well as on reflecting the great artisan legacy that exists in their country, revisitng the manual process and the personalized detail. In this way, they manage to merge the traditional with the contemporary.

The perfect example for this working method is their showstopper Huixcolotla Sideboard from 2016. Ad Hoc transforms the old artisan tradition of “papel picado”(perforated paper) – an expression of Mexican folk art, in which centuries of history, symbolism, ethnic fusion, religion, and aesthetics converge – by using a contemporary approach and unusual materials such as leather and brass for the creation of the sideboard.
