13-15 collection

the 13 – 25 collection draws a connection between the ancestral roots of oaxaca and the rich artisanal tradition of michoacán, resulting in a tribute to the fusion of the ancient and the new, the robust and the fragile. for this boy of work, ad hoc revives the popotillo technique from tzintzunzan, its fibre derived from wheat, weaving tales through its textures while embracing a colour palette inspired by oaxaca, comprising burnt reds, ochres, oranges, yellows, golds, and, of course, white.

huixcolotla series

the huixcolotla limited edition collection is inspired by the traditional patterns of „papel picado“ (perforated paper), a centenary handcrafted decoration widely used in mexican celebrations. together with the master artisan sergio hernández from the town of metepec, ad hoc introduced leather to the artisan’s practice, challenging the ephemeral nature of paper and accentuating the craftsman’s ability. fascinated by the delicacy of the material and the characteristic elaborate patterns of this handcraft, they developed a collaborative series that combines the aesthetics, materials, and functionality of contemporary design with the mastery and richness of mexican artisanal artistry.

roots series

mesoamerican cultures developed a particular aesthetic through sacred objects with a political nature that expressed their specific worldview and place in society. for example, the clothing and accessories of the ancient warriors reflected their status while imposing fear and respect. they used animal skins, breastplates, shields, shells, and colourful feathers. this way, aesthetics and warlike iconography functioned as a form of power and control. after the spanish conquest, mesoamerican cultures were widely discredited, assimilating them as barbaric and primitive. to vindicate this aesthetic and pre-hispanic idiosyncrasy from a contemporary perspective, roots emulate the warlike clothing of the mesoamerican hegemonic communities by using endemic fibres from mexico, such as ixtle, which comes from the agave plant.
