Wolfs + Jung is an art-design collective founded in 2005 by BoYoung Jung (South-Korean) and Emmanuel Wolfs (Belgian). Currently based in Seoul, the designers have lived and worked in Brussels, Belgium and Beijing, China.  These different cities have influenced their work and provided them with a global perspective. The collaboration was initiated by their common desire to question and investigate the emotional and functional dimensions of everyday objects. The duo has produced a series of objects that addresses and challenges contemporary subjects such as the global debates on nature, technology, and socio-cultural trends. Aiming at creating dialogues and encouraging our reflection on the contemporary world, their practice approaches design as medium rather than discipline. Each project is treated as a fertile ground to test the capacity of a broader definition of design. Their ambition is to encourage human interaction with common objects to go beyond the preconceived notion of functionality. BoYoung Jung and Emmanuel Wolfs hope to broaden critical awareness on the common matters concerning our environments through their projects. Their work includes product, furniture, lighting, urban and landscape design, installation, and design consulting.

Through their exploration of conceptual dimensions of everyday objects, the familiar becomes foreign and the strange becomes familiar. For instance, „Nature V2.01 project“ (2006-2012) transforms the recognizable form of a „tree“ into something to discover and at the same time questioning the human relationship with nature. The sense of mystery and oddity conveyed in their objects evoke a sense of poetry and invite viewers to emotionally engage with the objects, thus completing them. In addition to his research with the studio, Emmanuel Wolfs is also a professor at the Kookmin University in Seoul where he teaches Product Design, Universal Design and Sustainable Design. As well as his teaching practices, he also does design research. BoYoung Jung is a design consultant and collaborates with various Korean and Chinese designers, curators and educational institutions. From 2009 to 2011 she was Lecturer at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, China.

The work of Wolfs + Jung has been shown in major international fairs and exhibitions in Europe and Asia and is represented by ammann//gallery. In 2014, they were awarded the Special Prize of the show at the KSDS International Spring Exhibition in South Korea.
